REVISED DUE TO SNOW WEEK and NEW END OF SEMESTER

For the first few minutes of class, so I can take attendance and deal with any announcements you will work on your final journal.  The rest of the period is work time for films.

JOURNAL 40:  Class Reflections/Thoughts/Feedback
Respond to the questions below on the designated day–journals will be collected and graded on Friday!!!

  • MONDAY:  What were the two best assignments?  What projects should I change or not include in video 1?
  • TUESDAY:  What do you suggest to get students in this class to develop plans faster to ensure greater shooting time?
  • WEDNESDAY: journals collected after warmup—
    • What would get you to do viewing notes weekly?
    • List three things you think coulde be done to improve this class–turn in journal when done

ANNOUNCEMENTS: 

  • viewing notes 13 will be due Tuesday 1/24
  • viewing notes 14 will be extra credit–due TUESDAY 1/31
  • you have all week to complete your short film
  • completed plans and completed daily notes with director reports are due FRIDAY EOC
  • films will be late after 1:00 on TUESDAY 1/31
  • late films can be completed by 3:00 on Friday 2/3/2012 for 60%

VIEWING NOTES WILL BE COLLECTED AND NEXT ONES ASSIGNED TODAY

After watching a short film today, I will go over expectations for planning your short films and you will have time to work on plans.

  • Be sure you look at the time alloted, and plan out a realistic timeline
  • Have a good story with a beginning, middle and end
  • Develop good characters
  • Plan to shoot based on location rather than story sequence
  • Write the script and storyboard in conjunction with each other to better utilize time

By now you should have a basic idea for your short film.  We will watch and discuss a few examples, then go over some tools for story development.  You will have about 15-20 minutes to talk in your group between films.

For the rest of the week, and next week, you will have short warm-up activities involving watching short films and/or writing in journals, but most of the class period will be time for you to work.

During the Film “Rocky Road” you will describe on the plot, characters and setting.  We will then discuss the importance of each of these elements further—take good notes!!
