For this assignment, you will produce a 1-3 minute song using a program that allows you to play and record computer instruments and utilize loops.  You will only have 2 days for this assignment.

On the first day, play around with the program and figure things out.  Record your masterpiece on the second day.

For 4 days you will learn to use an application callled Dragon Naturally Speaking that used for operating a computer and typing through voice commands.

Your task is to complete 15 or more excercise in the training manual.  The first few will take a while, then they go by really fast( like 3-5 minutes).

When you complete one excercise, write down what you learned on your log sheet.

After 4 days, you will be given a dictation test to show that you have learned to use the program.

I know you did not have enough time to write all about your summer(journal 3) so you have the first 15 minutes of class.  Then we will do a quick review on formatting for your journals.  This would be a good time to ask any questions about the assignment or using tools in word.

Next, we will discuss touch typing and you will begin working with a program called Microtype.  This will be a regular part of class for the next several weeks.

Today you will be working in your journals all period.  I want you to be sure you can access them and format each entry properly with number date and title.  For the first 15 minutes of class you can complete journal 1 from yesterday.

After looking at a few examples, you wil work on the following 2 journals for about 15 minutes each:

JOURNAL 2:  MR. FAULKNER’S RULES
My classroom rules are easy to learn, they are only three words:

For each of the three words, write a short paragraph explaining what you think they mean for you as a student in this class and at FHS.

JOURNAL 3:  WRITE ABOUT YOUR SUMMER
Freewrite and share what you have been up to for the past few months.  Grammar and spelling don’t count—write a lot!!!!!

You will be using a journal in this class on a regular basis for writing, notetaking and responding to questions.  This will be a single word file that you maintain all semester.  When starting each journal it is important that you provide the following:

You will begin your first journal topic today—
JOURNAL 1:  REFLECTIONS ON THE PRESIDENTS BACK TO SCHOOL SPEECH
Write your reactions and thoughts on what President Obama said to you in his back to school message this week.  Some highlights you may want to write about are:

–what did he mean by not giving up on school—how can you do that?
–what is it that you want to become good at
– what will people say about your accomplishments years from now
