May 1st:

College Acceptance Deadline!

Seniors, please remember that you must make your college decisions by Saturday, May 1st. That includes accepting your Financial Aid offer, as well.

If you do not let your college know by May 1st, you might lose your spot to someone on their waitlist.

Be certain to read your admission paperwork and follow your college’s directions for accepting their offer.

SAT Online Tutorial

The SAT Online Tutorial is up and running! It will be available between now and June 15th.   Please see Marla Stewart in the Counseling Office to check-out a user-name and password! SAT Preparation books will be available for check-out soon!

Financial Aid for College:

Student Aid Report (SAR)

From College Board:

“After you file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you’ll receive your Student Aid Report (SAR). It can take from a few days or up to four weeks. The SAR contains the federal calculation of your Expected Family Contribution (EFC) figure, which is a preliminary estimate of the amount your family can contribute to college costs. Your EFC is used to determine eligibility for federal and state financial aid, as well as for institutional aid at some colleges.

Read the entire SAR carefully to ensure that all of your information is correct. You may need to make corrections or provide additional information to establish your eligibility for aid. If you have questions about your SAR, call the Federal Student Aid Information Center toll-free at 800-4-FED-AID (800-433-3243); TTY: 800-730-8913.

FAFSA- College Financial Aid

(FAFSA stands for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.)

Hopefully you have already completed the FAFSA form, but if not, this is your reminder:

If you are applying for a 2 year or 4 year college, and are in need of financial aid, you must complete the FAFSA form found at www.fafsa.ed.gov . Please get your FAFSA filled out, ASAP. Waiting to complete it can put you at risk for receiving less financial aid options.

Apply to Community College:

If you are interested in applying to one of our excellent local community colleges, you should do so, now!

Though you may not be attending school until the Fall, registration for Fall classes will begin in May 2010.

To apply, fill out an application for the community college of your choice, request an official transcript from the Counseling Office, and submit your application to the college.

Once they have received your application you will be given a Student ID number. With this ID number you will be able to sign up to take the placement COMPASS Test, register for classes, and apply for Financial Aid.

Don’t delay! Apply today! ;) Come talk to Ms. Olsen if you have questions, or make an appointment with an Admissions Counselor at the community college you are considering.

Common Application Update:

Mid-Year Reports due NOW! :)

If you have applied to schools using the Common Application, you will need to submit a Mid-Year Report with your updated transcript that includes your first semester grades for 2009-2010.

You will find the Mid-Year Report on the Common Application website (www.commonapp.org) under the “Forms” section. You will need to fill out the top of the form, sign it, and bring it to Ms. Olsen in the Counseling Office. Please do this as soon as possible, as your admission status may be on hold until they receive your semester grades.

If you have questions, please stop in to see Ms. Olsen or call her at 206 252-6221.
