Welcome, Class of 2014!
FHS Spring 2012 Counselor Announcements for Sophomores
Get the College/Career-Ready Edge—Balance is KEY!
Below you will find a list of announcements, including some great opportunities both at Franklin and beyond, which apply specifically to sophomores. Here are some general guidelines before you look through the list. As you prepare for College or a Career after graduation, remember to:
- Know your graduation and college entrance requirements
- Participate in extra-curricular activities
- Take a balanced, quality, and rigorous course load, including AP and Honors when possible
- Consider getting a part-time job, under 15-20 hours/week
- Make your summer count! Consider a job, internship, learning experience, volunteering, or job shadowing
- If you are interested in Vocational, Technical or Community College, explore programs that you are interested in now! You can get to work that requires special skills faster by completing certifications. You also can transfer automatically from a community college to every public university in Washington except UW!
- Figure out how much money you would have to make to support the lifestyle that you want. Try this website’s income calculator! http://www.jumpstart.org/reality-check.html
- If you are a student-athlete, know your NCAA requirements and invest in a solid career/education plan that you will enjoy and that can sustain you should your career path veer away from professional sports.
